Diagnosis:
When attempting to diagnose the transmission fault it is best practice to have the fault codes read from the transmission system as a first point of call, if you have fault codes stored for the internal speed sensors then this is a very good indication that you have a faulty transmission control module/conductor plate.
Common Failure symptoms:
Intermittently not changing gear
Gearbox goes into limp mode
Sticking in gear
Not selecting gears
Possible errors:
P1815 / 0717 - The Speed Signal From component Y3 / 9b3 (primary speed sensor CVT continuously variable transmission) is not available
P1826 / 0722 / 0794 - Speed signal from component Y3 / 9b5 (output speed sensor CVT) not available
P1939 / 0793 - Speed signal from component Y3 / 9b4 (secondary speed sensor CVT) not available
P2198 / 0730 - The gear ratio in the transmission (CVT) is not permissible
0720 - Speed Gradient
0723 - The rpm signal from component Y3/9b5 CVT (output rpm sensor) is implausible
0739 - The rpm signal from component Y3/9b4 CVT - secondary rpm sensor is not available
0794 - Intermediate Input Shaft Speed Sensor Signal
1634 - Component Y3 / 9n1 (CVT) is defective or the power supply is faulty (under voltage)
0896 - impermissible adjustment of the step down ratio in the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT)
Transmission Visit workshop warning on dash
Transmission can go straight into limp mode when selecting drive, slipping, loss of all drive and unable to select drive. These symptoms usually start off intermittently and become more frequent until total failure.
0717 – The Signal From Component Y3/8N1 (Turbine Speed Sensor, VGS) Is Not Available.
0718 – The Component Y3/8N1 (Turbine Speed Sensor, VGS) Is Defective.
2201 – The Component Y3/8N2 (Internal Speed Sensor) Is Defective.
0722 – Output Speed Sensor Y3/8N3 Output Speed Sensor VGS Not Available
0721 – The Transmission Output Speed Signal Is Implausible When Compared To The Wheel RPM Signal

A0335456732
A0009013000
A0009013200
A0009017100
Removal instructions:
Drain gearbox oil
Remove oil pan & internal oil filter
Unscrew the 10 screws holding the valve body to the gearbox
Unplug the control module multi-plug connector and then remove valve body from the gearbox - do not use a pry-bar/screwdriver to force the multi-plug connector from the gearbox housing when removing the valve body or it may break the connector.
Remove the 10 screws that hold the control module to the valve body
