The new Mercedes-AMG A35 bridges the gap between the A250 and A45 from AMG; and this is the Edition 1 version available only for the first year of customer orders. Having been presented for the first time at the 2018 Paris Motorshow, join me for a full walkaround and tour of the exterior and interior to discover the new hot hatch.

Powered by a 2l 4-cyl inline turbo making 306hp and 400nm, and combined with a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox, the little hatch will do 0-100km/h (62mph) in 4.7s and on to a top speed of 250kmh (155mph). The A35 is differentiated from the base models by the addition of more aggressive body parts including the Aero kit with rear spoiler, extended front splitter and larger side skirts as well as the Edition 1 carrying a design livery, and bespoke seat trim touches.

On the inside though is where it really starts to shine, with a huge host of technology available, primarily found via the new MBUX system. With natural voice technology the car will respond to all sorts of commands, while presenting information through dual widescreen cockpit displays and with a great interface. Additionally the AMG steering wheel also offers hot key access to dynamic driving functions and combines the Track Pace software for show that it's really about driving experience.
