Recently I did a transmission service on my Mercedes 722.9 Transmission and as part of this service Mercedes recommends changing the Pan Bolts with new ones. This is because the Pan Bolts are a Aluminium Stretch Bolt and are considered to be "one time use" by Mercedes.

Specifically when installing the new Pan Bolts Mercedes specifies:
ATF pan bolts: 4NM Torque + 180 degrees

I decided to follow the advise of Mercedes and to purchase new Pan Bolts, however I have seen much discussion in Forums about the re-use of these bolts, so I decided to test some of my old bolts to see at what Torque they break. In this video you will see that I found that the used Pan Bolts consistently break at 8NM.

Based upon my findings I would recommend NOT re-using the OEM Pan Bolts.

I know it's tempting to re-use these OEM Pan Bolts because they are outright expensive at $30 for 6, thus I would suggest if you are tempted to re-use then rather look at the alternative of using high-tensile zinc coated steel bolts and to simply use aluminium anti-sieze (https://amzn.to/32nR15P) on the threads. This alternative will cost a few dollars and then you can re-use them over and over again.
