PSG want to sign 24y/o Man Utd ace to be long-term Leo Messi replacement - report
The 2021/22 season was an incredibly tough one for Marcus Rashford.
After a difficult Euro 2020 campaign in which he missed a penalty in England’s heartbreaking final defeat to Italy at Wembley, Rashford looked completely lost in a Manchester United jersey.
The 24-year-old was restricted to just 31 appearances across all competitions and in that time, he scored just five goals.
For a player with Rashford’s unquestionable natural talent, that’s simply not good enough.
Many have suggested over the past 12 months or so that it may be beneficial for both parties if Rashford moved elsewhere.
While the youngster has made it clear he wants to fight for a starting berth under new manager Erik ten Hag, a summer exit may be what’s needed to revive his stuttering career.
And a potential destination for Rashford is Paris Saint-Germain.
The French champions have been interested in him for quite some time and despite his lacklustre form of late, they remain keen on acquiring his services.
According to The Independent, PSG have already contacted Rashford’s representatives over a potential move this summer.
The publication also state that Christophe Galtier’s side are eyeing him up as a long-term replacement for none other than Lionel Messi.
PSG are fearful that Messi will leave at the end of the season when his two-year contract expires and want to have a replacement already at the club if his exit does indeed become reality.
Never did we think we’d see the day that a hopelessly out-of-form Rashford would be tipped as Messi’s successor at a club, but here we are.
Well, French football expert Julien Laurens stated on Twitter that the versatile attacker is after a “new challenge”, but also reminded the public about his current contract situation.
Rashford technically only has one year remaining on his deal, but United have the option to extend it by another year, so essentially he has two years left.
