This is a follow-up to my previous video on rebuilding the transfer case on my 2011 Mercedes GLK 350 (X204). The front output shaft seal was compromised during the install, and I got more and better information from Timken (the manufacturer of the bearings) on how to properly set preload to endure a very long service life.

As a result, I'd STRONGLY suggest watching this video as well as the first if you're considering rebuilding your Mercedes 722.9 4Matic transfer case.

In this video I show you two very important things you need for this job...
1) How to properly set / check preload on the bearings, as well as providing a tutorial on bearing life, preload vs. rotational torque, etc., and how to adjust the preload on the transfer case bearings.
2) How to avoid damaging the (fragile!!!) front output shaft seal. Basically, this is done by removing the front driveshaft (so you don't have to fight with the splines when trying to install the gear cluster, so you don't damage the seal). More importantly, I show how I got the front driveshaft (aka propshaft) in and out - it's quite a bit more difficult than you might think.

The video is long(ish) but I tried to cut it back so there's little left that you don't need to know to do this job yourself.. I hope it's worthwhile, and that it helps you do your own transfer case rebuild (or associated task).
