Most full sized SUVs have a hard time breaking the 20 MPG marker since they are heavy, bulky, and not very aerodynamic. But the 2013 Mercedes GL350 BlueTec averages 19 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. The transmission is a 7-speed automatic.
