After the Toyota Camry, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class had long been Australia's favourite medium-sized sedan – until the latest BMW 3 Series and Tesla Model 3 came along.

Now the latest, sixth-generation model strikes back, with an all-new design and architecture with more than a bit of Mercedes S-Class limousine influence, to return the C-Class back up to the top of its segment. And, you know what? It's mighty impressive, and a compelling reason not to buy an SUV.

But with a limited model offering this time around - two petrol engines, and only a sedan body style; meaning no diesel, no wagon! - is the new Mercedes C-Class a luxury car you should consider?

And if it is, should you choose the 1.5L mild-hybrid C200, or shell out the extra cash for the beefier 2.0L mild-hybrid C300?
