Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its latest high-performance masterpiece, the GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This track-focused beast takes the already impressive AMG GT platform and dials it up to eleven, offering enthusiasts a potent combination of raw power and razor-sharp handling.
At the heart of the GT 63 PRO lies a familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, now tuned to produce a staggering 612 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque. This represents a significant bump of 27 hp and 50 Nm over the standard GT 63. The result? Blistering acceleration that sees the PRO rocket from 0-200 km/h (124 mph) in just 10.9 seconds, shaving half a second off its lesser sibling's time. Top speed is an autobahn-crushing 317 km/h (197 mph).
But the PRO isn't just about straight-line speed. Mercedes-AMG has gone to great lengths to ensure this four-door coupe can dominate on the track. Aerodynamics have been comprehensively reworked, with a new front apron featuring larger air intakes and carbon fiber deflectors. An active aero profile in the underbody, combined with additional air deflectors inspired by the AMG ONE hypercar, work in harmony with a fixed rear wing to significantly increase downforce. The result is over 30 kg of reduced front axle lift and 15 kg more downforce at the rear.
Cooling has been another major focus. Additional radiators in the front wheel arches and electric water pumps for the differential coolers ensure the GT 63 PRO can maintain peak performance even under the most grueling track conditions. Brake cooling has also been optimized to prevent fade during intense use.
Speaking of brakes, the PRO comes standard with massive 420mm ceramic composite rotors up front – the largest ever fitted to a production AMG. These are paired with six-piston calipers and feature titanium backing plates for reduced unsprung weight. Lightweight 21-inch forged wheels come wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires, with the option of even stickier Pilot Sport Cup 2R rubber at no extra cost.
Inside, the GT 63 PRO maintains a balance between track-day focus and everyday usability. Standard AMG Performance seats provide excellent support, while the AMG Performance steering wheel is wrapped in a combination of Nappa leather and MICROCUT microfiber. Unlike some track specials, the PRO retains its rear seats, making it a true high-performance grand tourer.
While fuel economy isn't likely to be a top priority for buyers, the GT 63 PRO's combined consumption of 14.1 l/100km (16.7 mpg) is respectable given its performance potential.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ represents the pinnacle of the AMG GT family, offering uncompromising performance for those who demand the ultimate in track-capable four-door coupes. With its potent powertrain, advanced aerodynamics, and race-derived cooling solutions, the PRO is poised to set new standards in the high-performance luxury segment. While pricing hasn't been announced, expect this range-topper to command a significant premium over the standard GT 63 when it hits showrooms.
