Better late than never, right? Mercedes-Benz has jumped into the EV market with the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS. The "EQ" name will appear on all of Mercedes' upcoming EV offerings, and the "EQS" is the electric equivalent of the S-Class sedan. In this video, Mark Takahashi explains what to expect from this Mercedes EV, including pricing information, release date, range estimates and more. This is our 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS review.

The 2022 EQS is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2021, with an estimated price tag north of $100,000. Sounds expensive? Remember the EQS is quite literally the Mercedes of electric vehicles. Initial range estimates out of Europe are an eye-popping 484 miles max, though that number will surely drop substantially when the EPA releases its range estimates.

Unlike other brands with luxury EV sedans, Mercedes does not seem overly concerned about getting to the destination as fast as its competitors. The standard EQS can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a claimed 5.5 seconds, while the dual-motor version can do it in 4.1 seconds. With EVs from Porsche and Tesla all checking in under 3 seconds, the Mercedes EQS will be left in the dust should it enter a drag race.

The interior of the EQS has the luxurious look and feel we've come to expect from Mercedes. Leather, wood and rose gold trim give the EQS that upscale feel, and the carpet feels soft like wool (it's a synthetic blend made from recycled materials). The main attraction is the optional 56-inch full-width dashboard screen. Dubbed "Hyperscreen," the display runs across the entire dashboard and includes a digital instrument cluster, a giant center display, and a screen in front of the passenger, all in one curved glass element.

The EQS from Mercedes is here and it's primed to sit atop the luxury electric car throne. But does the 2022 EQS have what it takes to be listed among the best electric vehicles, including the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan? So far, so good. The EQS is a Mercedes through and through. It offers luxury, high build quality and solid range, and it's certain to appeal to shoppers looking for a luxury EV.
