Welcome to Only Vans! I’m Trevor, lead Sprinter Tech at Mercedes-Benz in Farmington, Utah (@OnlyVansMBZ). In this video, I’m showing how to do a transmission service on a 722.9 7G-Tronic transmission which involves fluid, filter and gasket change. As you'll see I do not to a torque converter drain and that's because its been shown to not be necessary on a healthy transmissions being serviced during its routine maintenance schedule which is 4 years or 40k miles (whichever comes first) for the first transmission service and then every 8 years or 80k miles (whichever comes first) after the first service. if you do a lot of towing or your sprinter is very heavy you can even cut down to 6 year/60k mile intervals as the fluid will be breaking down quicker than standard use. The 6 quarts is the majority of the transmission fluid and more than required which is why you let fluid drain off until it reaches the correct level while the engine is running. about 80-90% of the fluid is replaced even when not doing the torque converter. if you have further questions please feel free to comment down below and ill respond.
