For those who are die-hard fans of Mercedes-Benz, the 2024 GLE SUV has many features you are probably familiar with. However, we have recently seen rival SUVs in the mid-size segment almost matching what the GLE offers. The Benz is, and always has been, very handsome and tech-forward, with a quartet of available powertrains that run the massive car. These powertrains range from a simple turbo inline-four to a twin-turbo V8. There are lots of other changes, and we are going to find out more in a few.
Just as the exterior is very beautiful, so is under the hood. Any model bearing the GLE 350 badge is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with either rear- or all-wheel drive.
The GLE400e’s plug-in hybrid powertrain also consists of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired with an electric motor that works together to give the car an output of about 381 horsepower. When it comes to acceleration, the GLE350 will take you from 0 to 60 in 6.6 seconds. On the other hand, the six-cylinder GLE450 is capable of doing the same, but it will take 5.3 seconds.
As much as there is the Mercedes-AMG GLE53, which is not in this series and has all the amazing updates to the engine, the most powerful and expensive non-AMG model of the GLE is the GLE580. For this one, Benz combined a 48-volt system with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8. All this works together to produce 504 horsepower.
As we have seen, Mercedes has decided to go for the hybrid system. But then again, this is a trend that is happening with all other automakers. The GLE400e model comes with a 23.3 kWh battery pack. However, Mercedes has yet to release an estimated driving range for this one. But if we were to estimate, we would say that a range of about 40 miles per charge would perfectly suit it. But even with that, we are yet to receive some news on that.
It is a surprise that the six-cylinder GLE450, which uses all-wheel drive, has the same fuel economy estimate as the rear-drive, four-cylinder GLE350. That is how good Mercedes is when it comes to being efficient. They both have EPA ratings of 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Combined, it is 22 mpg. As for the V8-powered GLE580, we can expect it to burn gas faster, given that it has a more powerful engine. So, because of this, it is expected to have estimates of about 16 mpg in the city, 21 mpg on the highway, and 18 mpg combined.
The interior is spacious enough to hold an optional third row of seats. However, these seats will be pretty uncomfortable for adults. As for the dashboard of any of the GLEs, they boast a prominent display.
The GLE models come with dual 12.3-inch displays that stretch nearly the length of the entire dashboard. This offers lots of ways for you to interact with the system.
A touchpad on the center console facilitates tactile interaction with the infotainment system, but the screen is also touch-sensitive. The GLE models are no different and come with a standard suite of driver-assistance features. This is what makes it a good pick for a family car.
There is every reason to love the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE. It is spacious, beautiful, and filled with tech. It is a car that stands out among its competitors and proves to them that it can do way better. And even though it may be a bit more expensive in terms of payment, it is definitely worth it.
