In 1976, Mercedes-Benz introduced the bullet-proof legend W123, which was followed in 1984 by the W124 which brought the line at the beginning of ' 90 and the arrival of the W210 round lamp. Literally and spiritually, these cars are e-classes, consisting of various salons, coupes, wagons, and the odd limousine. But around the time the W211-generation hit showroom in 2002, the designers and traders decided that the thread could be more divided and introduced the "four-port coupe " Mercedes-Benz CLS class at 2004. The E, you see, always brought a breath of this firmness, even when massaged in such memorable speed barges as the AMG Hammer of the years 1980 and Porsche developed 5xxe of the years 1990. Now Mercedes has divided the thread further, with the new AMG GT 4-Door Taking the place of the hottest CLS models, leaving the same CLS to occupy a Middle kingdom that suggests more style and sport than the E, but less of the ineffable material than the size of the AMG GT family .

The positive power of the further electrification

For other muddy things, the AMG GT 4-level door base, the GT53, and the upper CLS, the Mercedes-AMG CLS53, share a transmission that is not strictly an AMG proposal. The 53s employs 1 429-HP 3.0-liters online-six with a two-reel turbocharger and an electrically operated compressor. It also features an integrated 21 HP engine/generator sandwiched between the engine and the transmission that Mercedes calls EQ Boost and is powered by (and feeds) a 1.0-kWh battery. The motor continuously fires the engine after an automatic shutdown, the electric compressor eradicates any delay at low RPM, and the Turbo makes it all sing. It's a capper of a propeller, absolutely harmonious in operation. There is no stop/start stumble, no waiting for the Turbo to spool up to speed, plus the intrinsic equilibrium of the Straight-six means that there is no unworthy hardness or grit, traits that sometimes have tormented Daimler V-6 motors.

Online goodness-you also apply to the 362-HP CLS450, which mostly suffers from the lack of electric booster (but has the same engine EQ boost and 48-Volt electrical system). The power is certainly adequate, but the delivery feels a bit slow and not inspired compared to the worldwide instant torque that is available from the AMG variant. It is smooth and silent, a Beverly Hills Boulevardier for five passengers (above four in previous iterations), but lacks the enthusiasm and holistic excellence of CLS53.

Both versions of the six are supported by a nine-speed automatic. The CLS450 is back traction as standard, and its optional 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system employs a separate pair front-to-rear fixed 31/69. The CLS53 gets the system 4MATIC + Builder, which offers a completely variable torque distribution.
