Finding The Luxury SUV Of Your Dreams

When the time comes to drive a new full-size SUV, you have several choices available to you. Once you rule out the Lincoln Navigator and the Cadillac Escalade, you are left with a choice between the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS vs. BMW X7 models. At Mercedes-Benz of El Dorado Hills, we take a closer look at the two models to determine which one suits you best based on performance, features and space. Schedule a test drive in California today to experience the thrill for yourself.

Performance You Can Count On

You may think because both SUVs include a 3.0L turbocharged six-cylinder engine that the power is equal, but that’s not the case. One of the biggest differences between the Mercedes-Benz GLS vs. BMW X7 is the power coming from underneath the hood. The new Mercedes-Benz GLS features a mild hybrid configuration that helps to create 362 horsepower versus the BMW model with only 335 horsepower. You can also upgrade to the GLS 580 if you want to take advantage of the 483-horsepower BiTurbo V8 engine with EQ Boost.

While both luxury SUVs include four-wheel drive, there’s a difference with the transmission. New BMW X7 models are equipped with an 8 speed automatic, while the Mercedes-Benz SUV includes a quick-shifting 9 speed automatic instead. The fuel economy remains similar between the two models, but the new GLS tows up to 7,700 pounds, while the BMW SUV can only handle a maximum of 5,400 pounds. With the available air suspension and E-Active Body Control features, you can experience quite the ride behind the wheel of a GLS.

Well-Appointed Interior For Your Enjoyment
When you opt for either 7-passenger SUV, you need to know you have the space you crave. You will see some stark differences between the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS vs. BMW X7, starting with the room given in each row of seats. The new Mercedes contains more front seat legroom, rear seat legroom and rear seat headroom. Plus, it has more space for passengers in the third row. Additionally, the cargo space behind the back seat measures 17.4 cubic feet, while the BMW X7 only offers 12.8 cubic feet.

When it comes to technology, there’s no comparison between the two
models. While both will include the basics, such as zoned climate control, BMW can’t offer features such as a touchpad controller and eight USB ports, as the base GLS Class models provide. Plus, the new Mercedes comes equipped with a premium 13-speaker Burmester audio system and wireless device charging without you having to spend a penny more than necessary.

There’s No Comparison

After reading the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLS vs. BMW X7 evaluation, you see for yourself which model is right for you. At Mercedes-Benz of El Dorado Hills, we can also help you look at some of the pre-owned models. Whether you want to compare the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS or the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS to the 2020 BMW X7, our team can help. Schedule a test drive today in El Dorado Hills, California.
