New-generation mid-size German sedan will be an S-Class limousine mini-me ????Full Story: https://www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/new-mercedes-benz-c-class-officially-unveiled-128669/
When the all-new 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan arrives in Australia in late 2021, it will effectively be a shrunken-down version of this month’s dazzling new S-Class limousine.
Riding on the same new platform architecture as the three-pointed star brand’s latest flagship sedan, the W206 C-Class will be bigger, smarter and fitted with 48-volt mild-hybrid powertrains.
But it will also eschew six- and eight-cylinder engines and be powered exclusively by electrified four-cylinder turbo-petrol engines for the first time – including the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 performance sedan that follows.
While turbo-diesel versions will be offered in Europe, the 2.0-litre rear-wheel drive C 200 (150kW/300Nm) and C 300 (190kW/400Nm) sedans are expected to form the core C-Class sales in Australia.
Mercedes-Benz will again offer a plug-in hybrid C-Class, this time employing fourth-generation PHEV tech and a 25.4kWh battery to deliver an EV range of around 100km and a full recharge time of just 30 minutes.
As with the new S-Class, the big news inside the new C-Class is the latest MBUX infotainment system with huge twin screens, fingerprint recognition, over-the-air updates, ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice control and Smart Home, which networks the car with your house to control functions in both remotely.
Mercedes-Benz will also bring its A-game in terms of safety, which will include new driver-assist systems like Traffic Sign Assist, adding stop sign and red light warning functions, and Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC radar cruise control.
The downside could be pricing, which may step further ahead of its arch-rival, BMW’s brilliant new 3 Series.
