Mercedes-AMG GT2 Pro Is the Ultimate Track Tool, Costs North of Half a Million Dollars
Mercedes-AMG has just revealed what they call “the ultimate track tool,” the GT2 Pro. The price starts at almost half a million dollars. The model can’t be raced unless downgraded and can only be used only on track days.
The model, which is more potent than the Mercedes-AMG GT2 race car, is specifically designed for those wealthy customers who would rather spend time on the track than the highway. The latest Mercedes-AMG Motorsport family member is a non-homologated race car, developed for track days. Mercedes claims that lately, the demand for such cars has increased, and the GT2 Pro is their way of responding to what customers want.
The car is powered by the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that generates 697 horsepower (707 PS), the same as the GT2 race car, unveiled last year. Based on the current Mercedes-AMG GT2, it comes with a Push2Pass system that can temporarily take the output to a breath-taking 739 horsepower (749 PS).
The engine is linked to a sequential six-speed transmission, mounted on the rear axle in a transaxle setup, with modified gear ratios. The racing gearbox steers output and torque exclusively to the rear.
The car also underwent a suspension improvement, now sporting four-way adjustable shock absorbers, while the race car sports three-way unable units. A larger endplate of the rear wing improves aerodynamics.
The Mercedes-AMG GT2 Pro is exclusively painted in Iridium Silver with Petronas green stripes, a color combo inspired by that of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 racing car. The carbon-fiber body elements sport a bright finish. It rides on 18-inch wheels that sport the same color scheme.
The cabin screams ‘motor racing.’ A carbon safety cell, five-point harness, safety nets, an onboard fire system, and even an extraction hatch on the roof equip the model. Mercedes-AMG also developed a new steering wheel with additional controls and installed an air conditioning system inside the car.
Those who order a GT2 Pro can also get a racing suit, a Bell helmet, gloves, shoes, and… competition underwear as well. Seat and helmet cooling, plus a drinking system are also available. All who buy the car will receive a special car cover as well. Customers can also get special training from a member of the Mercedes-AMG Driver Pool.
This car can’t be raced unless buses get a downgrade that will make it suitable for the competition. Customers can get priority access for entering the AMG Racing Series competitions all throughout Europe. Mercedes will provide comprehensive racing support and extra services. A personal engineer and spare parts will be offered for extra money.
Those who want to take a Mercedes-AMG GT2 Pro will have to pay 479,000 euros, which translates to $510,402. That’s 70,000 euros ($74,857) over the GT2.
