Automatic gearboxes are a fine piece of working hydraulic art. Anyone who opened up one of these will marvel how everything works so smoothly.
For automatic gearboxes to work properly some basic maintenance is necessary and NOT do things to them like shown in this video.
Keep the ATF fresh, change oil&filter every 60k, sooner if towing or if driving a heavy vehicle and they will outlast the vehicle. Treat them badly and they will fail rather quickly....
