Thanks to Joseph Lloyd Vehicle Consulting (link below) and MG UK (link below) I had the opportunity to try MG's take on the burgeoning mid size SUV PHEV.
So this was the top of the range Exclusive version which costs around £33,000ish new at the time of typing. If you work for the public sector (nurse, fire fighter, police etc) it looks like MG UK are doing a discount deal taking them down to around the £28,000 mark.
There's also the Excite version which is around £30,000 and has EXACTLY the same drivetrain, so a 1.5 turbo petrol, with an electric motor and battery giving a claimed up to 32 mile range.
Spec difference is that on the Exclusive you get a powered tailgate, a panoramic roof, full-leather upholstery, ambient cabin lighting and LED headlights. If i could I'd get the Exclusive, that leather, fancy mood lighting and panoramic roof a just....nice!!
I guess many looking at these will be company car drivers on lease looking to save a packet in company car tax because of the low C02 emissions, or conscientious private buyers wanting to go partly green but not quite confident enough to go full EV yet.
So, should you save thousands compared to the competition, which are pretty much all more wonga, or save that company lease monthly? Have a watch to see what I think....
