In a way, the introduction of the Mercedes Benz Citaro on the SBS Transit represent the spiritual successor to the venerable O405 fleet that it has previously operated. Weeks after the retirement of the O405 buses that operated between Ang Mo Kio - Yio Chu Kang - Singapore Zoo (Mandai Lake Rd), Mercedes buses are now back on this mainly tourist route.

As you would have noticed, one major difference SBST Citaros have is the use of the Voith DIWA 854.5 4-gear automatic transmission instead of the ZF Ecomat adopted by SMRT Buses. It is likely that both PTOs' Citaros would be frequently compared by bus enthusiasts for many years to come.
