So, let’s get started…
1. Germany brought the tradition of decorating a Christmas-tree!
The tradition of decorating a Christmas tree which dates back to the 16th century came from Germany.
It is believed that Martin Luther, a prominent monk while walking his way home was captivated by the view of twinkling stars that appeared from the frame of spread-out tree-branches and got inspired where he recreated the view by wiring the tree with candles that later rolled out a tradition of decorating the Christmas tree.
Initially, the trees used to be decorated with lighted candles which later went to the decorating items like tinsel, straws, sweets and lights.
2. Beer is considered food in Bavaria!
You might consider beer a pleasurable commodity but don’t mistake the same for Bavaria (place in Germany) where it is considered food and not drink. That sounds crazy, but it is true. Beer is, in fact, the national beverage for Bavarians where they treat it like a liquid bread which provides them with basic nourishment.
3. A jailbreaker doesn’t attract any punishment from the law!
Where in countries like the U.S and Canada - prison-break is considered a serious crime, there are also countries like Germany that don't even recognise it as a criminal offence.
In Germany, it is stated that absconding from jail is a basic human-instinct that a person attempts in the hope of getting back his freedom and it must not be seen as a separate offence.
Strange but true, in Germany, an escapee is not separately penalised for his act of absconding from the jail.
4. Fanta was invented in Nazi Germany!
Fanta, an orange soda drink was invented in Germany in the time of World War-II when it became difficult to import the Cola syrup and a German branch decided to put Fanta in place to substitute the Coca Cola. Due to the trade sanctions imposed by America, the Cola Company came up with a view to start a new venture in the country itself.
5. Taxis in Germany are mostly Mercedes!
Germans love to travel in style! And the inference comes from their taxis where the majority of them are Mercedes Benz.
Due to their premier taxi standards, even the world-famous taxi Uber struggles to find a place on the country roads. It is interesting to note how Mercedes Benz remains a popular choice of taxi drivers in Germany in spite of its high maintenance cost.
