The GLE Coupé has been available from Mercedes-Benz since spring 2020. The origins of the GLE presented in 2018 are unmistakable - as is typical for a coupé, the windshield has a flatter incline and the roofline slopes down towards the rear. The result: an impressive appearance. Appearance and quality are of a high standard. In keeping with the times, two wide-format displays characterize the cockpit of the Stuttgart-based driver, which is available as a diesel, gasoline and plug-in hybrid. The test car GLE Coupé 400 d is equipped with the in-line six-cylinder diesel of the highest power level, which has a whopping 330 hp and is an example of smooth running and power development. The lush torque of a maximum of 700 Nm is transmitted via a nine-speed automatic to a transfer case, which distributes the drive torque between the axles as the situation arises. According to the manufacturer, the crossover takes 5.7 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 and the propulsion ends at 240 km / h. Instead of the standard steel suspension springs, an optional adaptive air suspension system can be selected. The chassis with E-Active Body Control is available for an additional surcharge (test vehicle equipment), which is intended to counteract rolling, pitching and lifting movements and supports additional driving modes. In city traffic in particular, however, the body movements that occur make it noticeable that the physical principles of a nearly 2.5-ton SUV cannot simply be overridden. When driving outside of town, the vehicle becomes more quiet as the speed increases. The system (driving mode Curve) actively leans into the curve between 30 and 160 km / h and thus significantly reduces the side tilt, but you can safely save the high surcharge of 7,540 euros. Since the GLE Coupé is not a flyweight, the consumption in the ADAC Ecotest is 8.2 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers. On the other hand, the emissions, which are very low thanks to an additional SCR catalytic converter with an ammonia barrier catalytic converter, are exemplary - that gives the full 50 points in the pollutant chapter and a total of three out of five stars in the ADAC Ecotest. Almost 80,000 euros are due for the GLE Coupé 400 d in the basic version
