A major development in automotive safety is the anti-lock brake systems. Sensors at the wheel detect wheel speed. If the speed of one wheel is slower than the others the computer knows that wheel is locking up. That ABS computer reduces brake pressure to that wheel until it is traveling the same speed as the others. The ABS computer then continues to reapply the brakes until the car slows down. If a wheel speed sensor is not functioning properly you may get a warning light for the ABS or you may feel the ABS activate at low speeds for no reason. In this tech article we will show you how to replace your ABS wheel speed sensor.
In order to replace your ABS with wheel speed sensor you will need to jack up and support the vehicle to remove the wheel. See our tech article on jacking up and supporting your vehicle.
