A driver is expected to be charged after flying down the wrong side of the M1 with police in hot pursuit.
Two patrol cars were damaged and an officer injured after the man tried to do a u-turn at the Kariong turn off.
The chase began in Lake Macquarie with witnesses saying they saw the car driving at speeds of 200 kilometres an hour.
They eventually caught him by boxing him in on the side of the motorway. Officers wanted to speak to him over alleged parole violations.
