few years and most likely the trend will prevail in 2018. However, we have noticed that this body type is not widely represented with electric or plugin-hybrid powertrains. Most likely, this is due to larger battery requirements, that usually result in significantly higher prices hence low sales.

That is why manufacturers have tried to stay away from this class, until the technology caught up and it appears that it finally has. Tesla Model X is being joined by newcomers from Audi, Jaguar and Nio which are pure electric, and plug in hybrids from Kia, Mercedes and Range Rover offer decent all-electric range and incredible gasoline savings in the combined mode.
