Book values on older Mercedes-Benz cars show an interesting phenomenon - the entry-level C-Class loses a far less significant portion of its value, and at a certain point, can even by the same money as an S-Class that cost three times as much when new. But does that mean you should opt for the S? If you're budget minded, then absolutely not.
One reason the S depreciates like it fell off a cliff while the C holds better value is the lack of complication with the C - by necessity and design, they are simpler, more reliable cars that are much easier to maintain than the higher dollar Mercedes-Benz vehicles loaded with complicated systems and high tech gadgetry. While the S is certainly an incredible Q-Ship and one of the finest vehicles to drive when in tip-top condition, maintaining it to that level will cost one hell of a lot more than in the C.
So take it ass you will - yes, the S is a superior machine in terms of engineering, but the C is engineered to be simple and reliable. Full review and test drive by Bill of a 2007 C 230 Sport. The car is available for sale at Auto Europa Naples, www.AENaples.com or call us at (239) 298-8000.
