The former M-Class was an off-road-capable premium SUV, but the new GLE-Class is comfy, opulent, and high-tech, with two body shapes and many powertrain options.
The 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8 produced 550 hp for the GLE63 AMG and 577 hp for the AMG S. GLE450 AMG Coupe and GLE63 AMG S Coupe have 3.0-liter and 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 and V-8 engines, respectively. GLE43 AMG Coupe had a nine-speed automatic, whereas all other powertrains had seven-speeds. The base GLE350 had RWD, but all other variants had AWD. We liked the GLE-Class enough to make it a finalist in 2016Motor TrendSUV of the Year. "The new GLEs aren't groundbreaking. They remain a good luxury family truckter like the ML."
